Kansas Pharmacists Association - Contract Social Worker

Position Overview
- The Kansas Pharmacists Association seeks a compassionate, experienced social worker to support participants enrolled in the Kansas Pharmacists Recovery Network (KsPRN). This role focuses on providing individualized support to pharmacy professionals experiencing physical health challenges, mental health conditions, and/or substance use disorders, with the goal of facilitating a safe return to practice whenever possible.
- This position plays a critical role in protecting public safety while supporting the health, dignity, and long-term professional viability of pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy interns participating in the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and refer program participants for evaluation based upon identified needs of the individual.
- Provide supportive case management and wellbeing and/or recovery-oriented services to KsPRN participants.
- Assist with individualized recovery and monitoring plans in coordination with KsPRN committee support.
- Support participants navigating mental health conditions, substance use disorder treatment and recovery, and/or physical health issues.
- Create and maintain a list of wellness resources available to participants
- Maintain regular contact with participants to monitor progress, encourage adherence to recovery plans, and identify emerging concerns.
- Coordinate, as appropriate, with treatment providers, evaluators, employers, and regulatory stakeholders while maintaining strict confidentiality for the participants.
- Assist participants in developing coping strategies, relapse-prevention plans, and sustainable wellness practices.
- Document participant interactions and maintain accurate, secure records in compliance with program and legal requirements.
- Be available to participants during standard business hours, with limited after-hours availability for urgent participant needs.
- Participate in regular meetings (virtual or in-person) with KPhA staff and supporting committee. Remote position with option for in-person work in Topeka, KS.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of management experience or master's degree in social work or closely related field from an accredited program
- Advanced educational preparation in substance use disorder treatment.
- Active, unrestricted licensure (Kansas or multistate).
- At least three years of experience working with individuals with mental health disorders and substance use disorders.
- Strong understanding of recovery-oriented care, relapse prevention, and ethical boundaries in professional monitoring programs.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with program leadership.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and compassion when working with healthcare professionals in sensitive situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with healthcare professionals or within professional recovery/monitoring programs.
- Familiarity with substance use disorder treatment modalities and community-based recovery resources.
- Knowledge of confidentiality requirements related to healthcare, behavioral health, and professional compliance programs.
Work Structure and Compensation
- Remote contract position with flexible scheduling within agreed-upon availability expectations. Virtual meeting attendance required, with
- Hourly compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- No benefits provided; contractor responsible for licensure maintenance and professional liability coverage.
- Initial onboarding: 6–10 hours per week for 4–6 weeks
- Ongoing support: ~2–4 hours per week
- Target start date: February 2026
